Antonia Zhang is a very expressive student who is passionate about music and will be studying astronomy related areas in the future. She considers education as a vital element for a person’s internal growth, this led her to pursue diverse interest and make future impacts on her community by focusing on the development of education.
It had been challenging for her to pursue her passions. Antonia once wanted to study music as her major, but since she was not developed and professional enough, many people around her believed that it would not be helpful for her to get into a good university. She was indecisive by then, and eventually chose to trust others and transferred her future major into astronomy. There was a time she regretted that she was not being persistent. However, she then found out that she loves challenges and anything that is unexpected and unknown to her. It taught her a lesson that education is not just about helping people to go to a top university or simply pursuing passions, especially for people who don’t have any, and it could create anxiety. It should be about providing more chances of exploring different areas, enjoying the process and developing internally as a person. Passions can be something you pursue by studying it in schools or universities, but it does not have to be.Â
Antonia is currently studying IBDP as a grade 11 student. Other than that, she is the founder of the school club ‘space society’, which involved planet exhibitions and an outer civilizations discussion group ‘Life Beyond Earth’. She is also the founder of a charity band named ‘b is for band’. In order to explore more about space and make contributions in that area, she is as well a volunteer docent of The Beijing Planetarium. As a personal interest, she has composed 7 pieces of music and has an official account on Netease. For the area of education, she has been sharing her thoughts with many people around her, including her classmates, teachers, and people who have the same problem as her.
In the future, she is expecting to study in an US liberal art university where she can choose any topics she wants to study, such as music, astronomy, art, biology, etc. and continue to focus on musical composition and exploring outer civilizations. She will be embracing all unexpected changes and keep exploring her passions and developing herself as a person.
