Alina’s enduring passion for philosophical issues drives her innovative exploration of social sciences and their global impact. Her curiosity fuels her commitment to addressing education inequities, aiming to become a transformative leader in both local and global context.Â
Growing up in Beijing until the age of six, Alina has always been proud of her Chinese heritage and culture. As the child of immigrant parents, she struggled to integrate into American culture and way of life. Often, she felt torn between her cultural roots and the need to fit in.Â
This experience taught her the importance of understanding and embracing diversity, which has fueled her passion for promoting cultural awareness and inclusivity.Â
Alina has been excelling in academics, ranking in the top three of her grade for two consecutive years, with notable strengths in AP US History, AP Literature, and AP Psychology. She has been actively involved in band and orchestra since 6th grade as a flute player, exploring her love and passion for music. Alina was part of the regional youth orchestra for over two years and achieved fifth and seventh chair in the VBODA All-Districts Symphonic Band competition in 2022-23. In her free time, she enjoys reading books, particularly in literary fiction, historical fiction, young adult, and psychological thrillers. Alina also participates in various writing competitions and recently earned the runner-up position in the Young Writers’ Annual Contest for short stories.
In the future, Alina plans to major in a social science field and aspires to attend law school, where she hopes to further her impact on society.
